Biography

“Success is the sum of small efforts – repeated day in and day out.”

– Robert Collier

Shelley Ramirez is the owner of Kids First Educational Therapy. She holds an A.S. in Early Childhood Education, a B.S. in Communication Disorders & Sciences, and an M.A. in Educational Therapy.

Shelley’s goals for every child she works with include:

  • Greater academic success
  • Improved academic/learning confidence
  • A foundation of autonomous, lifelong learning
  • Families that are equipped to be their child’s educational advocate

Shelley’s educational accomplishments have provided a rich knowledge of typical child development as well as knowledge of atypical development including speech and language concerns and a variety of learning disorders.

Beyond her book knowledge, Shelley has first-hand experience in working with children with special needs. Her experience in this area began when she and her husband adopted four biological siblings through the foster system, all of whom have varying diagnoses and special needs.

This led Shelley to homeschool her children in an effort to provide a learning experience that was not served in the traditional public school system. Her children have benefited from a customized education delivered in a manner that has resulted in lowered stress and anxiety along with increased academic success.

Shelley has been part of various communities through the process of foster parenting, adopting, and homeschooling. She desires to help other families in the way her family has been supported and uses her experience to teach families how to advocate for their children and access special education services.
