Living In Fear

More and more often, I see people let fear and worry rule their lives. Potential triggers like tariffs, cost of living, and fear of the future have been constantly circulating the news. These stressful factors can lead fear to creep into our lives and completely take control.

As most of you know, the majority of people lived in fear during the pandemic. During that time, we all learned how to better deal with anxiety and uncertainty. But it still seems that many people are struggling with these big feelings.

I wanted to take a moment to talk about fear, what it does to our minds, and how to overcome it.

How Fear Affects Us:

Fear bars you from living a joyful lifestyle. It keeps you from being relaxed and robs you of your peace. Fear constantly sits on the surface of your mind. Which means it is easily triggered, ready to jump out at any time.

This constant state of fear in children often manifests in their behaviors. Instead of telling you with their words, they’ll tell you with their actions. These big feelings often cause children to act out.

In adults, it can result in a restrictive mindset. When a person lives in fear, they lose control. They no longer have the ability to think of the positives surrounding them. They get trapped in a bubble. It can be a physical bubble, like your house or room. Or a mental one, where you distance yourself from loved ones. Either way, it can become debilitating.

What You Can Do:

Take care of others. Find some time in your week to volunteer or make a meal. Find one small act that will affect others outside of your bubble. Feeling those connections that you make will make your world wider. It can also bring someone out of their world of fear. It can also give you
confidence by proving that you have something to offer.

Think glass half full. Find the positives and fill your life with them. Fill your home with things that bring you joy. Be mindful of what media you’re watching. If your social media feed is filled with fear mongering, find a way to find more light hearted or optimistic content. Everything we come into contact with affects us. Find what you can control, and curate it to bring you peace.

Try journaling. Journaling is a powerful tool when it comes to changing your mindset and lifestyle. Journaling regularly can help you put your negative thoughts on paper. By writing your feelings out, it can take you out of your spiral. You can put that loop out of your mind and it can stay on the paper. This will make your feelings more manageable.

No one should live in fear. I hope if you are dealing with fear, you do not feel hopeless. You have the power to overcome these negative thoughts.
